Hey all-

Hoping to build my son a really solid gaming computer and I believe I have settled on the i5 4690k processor unless someone here tells me different.

I am looking at 2 motherboards currently.

MSI ATX DDR3 2400 LGA 1150 Motherboards Z97 PC MATE for $80 after rebate

AND

MSI ATX DDR3 2600 LGA 1150 Motherboards Z97-G45 GAMING about $155

Will the more expensive board get me that much more performance?

Is there another board or another motherboard processor combination that is better?

Any advice is welcome..

Thank you

Hello... There will be a On-board sound chip and Lan chip... they can be a feature that is worth more $$... as they perform better and have a better history of support behind them too.

MSI ATX DDR3 2400 LGA 1150 Motherboards Z97 PC MATE has 2 x PCI Slots that will not be used... OLD tech.
The Lan and sound chip on the PC mate are RealTek and are good... But there are less Audio connections for surround sound on it too... Its a matter of knowing what you want to connect to it and having the connectors there for it... Headphone use will be fine... all in all, for the price, it will be fine MB for the I5.

Love the price and the newer tech here.. Was considering overclocking the i5 4690k.

May i ask the advantages of going with the new tech? Is the i5 4690 better if I overclock?

Thanks!

Thank you BlackBird- I am going to make the trek up to Microcenter and grab the i5 6600k Processor for 219.00 on sale right now. Will any of the motherboards they have as choices be sufficient for that chip? Thank you
