Hey guys. I've been having quite a bit of problems with my laptop lately, mainly during gaming, and I can't figure out what the problem is. It is most likely a problem with my RAM, but it could also be my old graphics card, hard drive, or CPU. I have 8GB of total RAM, and as soon as I start up my laptop and open task manager, it shows that i'm using 3GB/8GB just on startup. If I leave my laptop on for the day, it will creep up to as high as 4.5GB while idle, which seems like a lot. Over the past week or so, my games have been very choppy, especially during intense battles and such (StarCraft 2 and Smite).
Here is a picture of my resource monitor during boot

I want to buy new RAM and see if it fixes anything, but I don't want to spend $150 on a new set of ram for nothing. Can anyone help me out? Thanks

EDIT: Forgot to mention some specs. I have an Alienware M17x R3.
Intel i7-2630 @2.0GHz
Windows 67 64-bit

Solution
Unless the RAM is full, "more" being used won't make it choppy. You need to measure FPS to see that it's dropping in speed (fraps or something similar) and temps.

when you look at the two screen shots, I can see raptor gaming running now, 3xspotify services, anti-malwarebytes service is sucking up, and can suck lots sometimes.

Thanks for the help, Getochkn! Smite has an in game FPS viewer so I usually put that on when I play. Beforehand, I would get a strong 60-100 FPS at max settings. But in the last few weeks, it usually wont go over 60, and when I get close to other players, it will drop to 20-30 and start to be choppy. I also forgot to put in my post that my graphics card is a GTX 460M
