I have a Alienware Area 51 R2 (Late 2014) with a Intel Core i7 5820K @ 3.30GHz
Haswell-E/EP 22nm Technology.

I am interested in Upgrading the CPU for better Streaming , Video Editing, and Playing World of Warcraft.

I would like to purchase Intel Boxed Core I7-6700K 4.00 GHz 8M Processor Cache 4 LGA 1151 BX80662I76700K.

Will this be possible with my setup.

Motherboard is Alienware 0XJKKD (only name i can find through speccy)

Hi Triipid,

I'm afraid upgrading to that CPU with your current motherboard isn't possible. Your current motherboard supports the LGA 2011-v3 socket, while the i7-6700K is a LGA 1151 socket CPU.

Wow thank you for the quick response.

Ok so if i wanted to still upgrade to a new CPU thats good for streaming and editing would i be able to do that by just finding a compatible CPU or do i have to get a new motherboard?

The only other upgrade you could get in the LGA 2011-v3 line is the Intel Core i7-5930K, but it REALLY isn't worth the money for what you would get out of it as an upgrade.

The i7 5820K is actually one of the strongest cards for what you are wanting to do right now. Until you're ready to upgrade your entire rig to Skylake I'd say you were just about at the glass ceiling of your current system.

So, I have the 5820K processor also and people suggest I stay with it. The question I have on overclocking. Dell has their crappy utility that doesn't save a thing and you have to reload every time. Is there a suggest BIOS setting I should try instead? Anyone out there overclock it past 4.0?
