Hi,

I placed an order for Asus Strix GTX 970 DC2OC 4GB Graphics card. But i don't know if my current power supply that is Cooler Master RS-550-PCAR-E3 will be able to provide enough juicy to run the show.

ALSO CAN THE PCI-e 6+2 PIN BE USED FOR THIS CARD AS IT NEEDS 8 PIN POWER CONNECTOR?

My current configuration is:
Gigabyte USB3 880GM Motherboard with AMD Phenom X4 955.
Cooler Master Siedon Elite liquid cooling for processor
1 Sata 2 TB, 1 IDE 300 GB and 1 SSD 240 GB
Current GF Card is XFX ATI Radeon HD6770 4GB
2x4GB Gskill Memory
4 cabinet fans in Cooler master HAF XB Cabinet

Will my current power supply sustain the new GF card or should i upgrade?

Solution
Although not a very good PSU , it has the power and the 6+2 needed to power the card.

Upgrade to a higher quality unit in the near future.

Would be a good choice when you upgrade.

It maybe be only 520w but it's higher quality and can actually deliver 520w. Your supposed 550w psu can even get close to delivering 550w without blowing up. You've been lucky it's lasted this long and it's mainly because you haven't pulled much from it, the 970 will pull more and when the cm fails it could very well take other parts with it.

Thanks for that link it helped a lot. It does give complete review of my current power supply and also helped me to make my mind in buying the new one. So as my current PSU was pretty old and might blow up in future I went ahead and bought myself a new one. A Corsair RM850 Gold Certified Fully Modular PSU. Which i think is future proof.
