Interesting error - GPU to monitor no signal, but works fine on a TV

So this is an interesting issue.
I am messing around with some old hardware, assembling a computer.
When I have assembled just the barebone (PSU, CPU, GPU and RAM) the monitor receives no signal. I have tested it with 2 monitors now, and it doesn't work.
HOWEVER, and this is the interesting part, it works perfectly fine, when I use my TV as the monitor, regardless of which port I use (HDMI and DVI on the card both work with the TV, neither work with the monitors).
So, this leaves me to conclude that there is a difference in how a monitor and a TV handles input from a GPU. The question is what this difference is, and how I can fix it for the monitors :)

The following components have been tested in another PC, and have been confirmed to be working:
RAM, GPU, PSU
The CPU and Mobo have worked previously, but I suspect that the problem might be with these components. However, they are working fine, as previously mentioned, when a TV is used as the monitor.

The components are:

CPU: i7
Mobo: Asus P6T SE
GPU: Tried 3 different ones, same error with all 3 (XFX Radeon HD 5770, Asus GTX 285, Asus EAH 5770)

Any suggestions on this one?

Do you know for certain that the monitors are indeed good? Is there a setup button (or menu) on the monitor that can be pressed to see if something comes up on the monitor? If you have onboard graphics on the motherboard, does that work? Try both analouge and DVI.

Hook up the tv and one of the monitors. Then go to Control Panel, Display, Change display settings then click on the Detect button. Does your computer see the monitor? Under Multiple Displays, select "Extend these Displays" Go to Advanced settings, click on the Monitor tab and check the screen refresh rate. Toggle between the settings offered, hit apply and see if that changes anything.

These suggestions are for a Windows 8 OS, so depending on your OS, the screens may be somewhat different, but same idea.
