Best CPU Cooler for AMD FX-8350 Overclocking and Gaming

I will be doing some overclocking and gaming on my new CPU. My budget is under $100. I want silence and performance. Here are some of my options:

Cryorig R1 Ultimate (http://www.cryorig.com/r1-ultimate.php)

Hi Michael,

The Cryorig R1 and Noctua NH-D15 are the top dogs for air cooling performance. Either one of those will cool your CPU VERY well, so between the two go for the one you can get for the best price.

1) I dislike liquid cooling in general because I've seen a lot of pump and other fail issues.

2) NOCTUA is excellent, especially if you have your fan control software setup properly.

3) *Make sure the Noctua cooler you choose does not get in the way of your DDR3 memory or top PCIe slot. If you don't use the top PCIe slot and have sufficiently low enough DDR3 memory (or don't use the affected slot) you'll be okay but be certain.

Check case WIDTH as well (should state maximum CPU cooler height) and note that if you have a SIDE FAN that probably won't work with a large cooler.

4) Finally, if the CPU_FAN header is 4-pin then make sure to get a PWM fan setup. If it's 3-pin then you need a 3-pin fan (voltage controlled).

Some 4-pin headers can control 3-pin fan speed but NOT the other way around. There's also no way to know if a 4-pin header will work with a 3-pin fan either without actually trying it.

Coolers and points:

1) NH-D15
This has 4-pin fans.

2) NH-D14
This has 3-pin fans.

3) NH-U14S
This has 4-pin fans. Slightly less cooling than the first two but still quite good, but I'd use only if CLEARANCE is an issue (it can still hit one of the DDR3 sticks).

Summary:
Again, I'd go with either of the first two depending on what CPU_FAN you have.
