Hi again everyone

Hokay so here's the deal-

Bought bf a 34" ultra wide monitor (1440p)... he had a single r9 380 gpu

Other specs:
CPU FX-6300 OC to 4.4GHz and stable
MB: Asus m5a99x evo r2.0
PSU: 850W
CPU Cooler: CM 212
4 case fans
128GB SSD
500GB HDD
16 GB DDR3

He games (mostly Blizzard games) and also streams. His goal is to stream as well once the 34" comes in without running into any issues. We believed the GPU to be just "ok", so to get better performance for the higher demands of the monitor, we bought another R9 380 yesterday and crossfired them.

We also n oticed the boot after the xfire was significantly longer - is this normal?

We had never done this before but after some trial and error, it worked. Unfortunately he did not use 3dMark before or after (even though i told him to) so I don't actually have solid numbers. What I can say is that with the crossfire GPU's, he was getting about 12-15 FPS on the max settings of Ark.

So we wanted to see how to make that better. To my understanding, it seems as if the CPU is bottlenecking the crossfired GPUS per the posts that I read below:

Will my FX-6300 @4.5GHz bottleneck a 7950 CrossFire? And if yes, could I increase my overvolt (for overclock)

two R9 280X + FX 6300 4.2 OC = bottleneck?

Crossfire - no performance increase

So we are fairly certain the power supply is strong enough

We turned off VSync

and the GPU's are not at 100% while playing demanding games, therefore we have come to the conclusion that we have bottlenecked.

So then we tried to push the overclock with no success; ended up having to reset the CMOS and start from scratch. Its now OC'd again to 4.4GHz and once again stable.

So here is the huge question:

With the given configuration, the first option would be to upgrade the CPU. We were thinking about the FX9590 but it's a lot of money and im not sure the performance would be that much better- would we run into bottlenecking issues there?

Otherwise, we might as well upgrade the MB and the processor together, and in that case we ask for recommendations so we don't run into this anymore.

Thank you all for the read!

If you think that the 6300 is bottlenecking your cpu, get a fx 8350. It can overclock up to about 5 ghz. A 9590 is just a overclocked 8350 that won't overclock any higher, and needs a liquid cooler. A 8350 is only $150
