Hi! I'm trying to clean install Windows 8.1 on my new SSD, but every time I try, I get a BSOD with the message "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL". After this, the PC restarts, and I get another error, saying something like "Installation could not continue, try again". (I apologize for my English, as I am not a native speaker).

I've read plenty of guides, googled every error, but I can't seem to figure out what causes this.

I have tried installing Windows 10, which worked, but I couldn't activate it.

I plugged out my original HDD when I tried installing both W10 and W8.1.
I set SATA mode to AHCI.
I did the "diskpart" in command prompt.
I formatted the SSD.
I "Deleted" partitions, and made new ones.

My specs:
Intel Core I7 4770K @ 3.50 GHz
8 GB Ram
MSI Z87-G45
NVidia GTX 770

My original Windows licence is for 8.1, but currently I own Windows 10 (which is on my HDD).

Thank you!

The easiest thing to do would be to install Windows 10 again.

Once you have installed and it says it can't be activated you can contact Windows Support HERE and explain your problem. You will need to have your valid Windows 8.1 license key ready, because they will need to verify that it is genuine. They should help get you set up with an activated Windows 10 key after this.

I guess I could try that, although I already called Microsoft and told them I couldn't activate it on my SSD, she told me to install Windows 8.1 instead, and then upgrade... Not that that works in my case.

Just the other day I helped a staff member with a similar problem. It might come down to which support rep you get, but they certainly will be able to authorize a Windows 10 installation if you have a valid 8.1 key.

Letting them you that your 8.1 install is corrupted might help expediate the process.

So I contacted Microsoft.. They told me to install Windows 8.1 and call them back before I proceeded. When I did, the previous guy gave me a 9 letter case number, instead of 10, so I had to explain everything to another guy, which then told me to plug out everything except screen and mouse/keyboard, then try again? Ok? He also said there was something wrong with my pc. The frustration is killing me...
