Would these specs work well together? I also want to upgrade the processor first so would it work with the stock psu? also, would i need to buy a new motherboard? (Im not really keen to do that because I have no idea how to do it)
Thanks for any help and sorry for the huge post.

Solution
The Motherboard is compatible with the I5-4690(k), but might require a BIOS update before installing.
CPU Support list for Asus B85M-G - https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/B85MG/HelpDesk_CPU/
I suggest you to go with the non-k version because your motherboard is not capable to overclock.
Your current PSU will work just fine with the I5-4690, but upgrade to that EVGA SuperNOVA G2 550 when buying the GTX 970.
The build looks great to me and will run smooth games on 1080p/1440p.
