Hi all,
Im having big problem with my WD Passport hard drive. I have plugged it in but it is not detected by my computer. Really appreciate any help. Some background on my problem:
1) hard drive lights continously on, but not detected in my computer and Disc management.

2) Not detected in other laptop as well. I've tried different USB port on my computer with no success.

3) hard drive sounds fine. no clicking sound. just normal hard drive sound. I even open up the hard drive and it looks fine...

Really appreciate if you can give any advice, Please..

Thank you

That's very unfortunate, MrBall! I'm truly sorry to hear about it. :( I'm afraid there's not much more you can do to fix the issue by yourself.
I'd NOT recommend you to take it out of the enclosure as it will void the warranty of the WD My Passport and it will also make the data on it unaccessible due to the incorporated hardware encryption of the model.
If you have important data on it, I'd suggest you to turn to a professional data recovery company for help. Here you can find some of WD's International Data Recovery Partners: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=2ErPGd

If you don't you can simply contact our customer support, once you do a warranty status check here: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=sOi4IY
If it's...
Welcome to the community, MrBall!

I'm sorry to hear about your WD My Passport problems! :( I'd recommend you to try uninstalling and re-installing the external HDD as a device from Device Manager, see if it's even detected there. ( https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc725782.aspx )
Another problem could be the USB port or the USB cable itself, both of them might not be supplying the drive with enough power for Windows to recognize it. I'd recommend you to try swapping both the cable and the USB port, see if that will help.
If you have access to another computer, you could also try plugging the WD Passport there and see if it will get properly detected.

Keep us posted! Hope this helps! :)

Dear SuperSoph,
Thank you for the suggestions but unfortunately it still does not works. I tried to swap cables and use USB port behind the PC still nothing. I tried on other laptops also with no luck .
I heard some people suggests just to wait until the computer detect the hard drive and it could take days... I tried to leave it overnight but still no luck.

any other suggestions please?

Thank you

My response might be 6 years late - I have a similar situation as your: On one day, my 6 years old WD passport hard drive (WDBACY5000ABL-00) is not detectable by the computer and Disk Management, but light is on and disk is spinning while plugged in. After a couple hours of research, I was finally able to access the data by connecting it through a high-wattage (a.k.a data cable) USB-C cable to my computer after suggested by this youtube video. My guess is that the original cable does not carry enough power to the passport based on this Amazon review on a different WD passport model.
