I am having a strange issue that i have never encountered before on my PC. About a month ago i had to reinstall windows due to me removing the master boot record unintentionally and i have intstalled Windows 7 Home Premium onto a 8 month old Samsung 840 EVO SSD and used a WD 1TB mechanical hdd for storing my games. Anyways after installing all the correct drivers and software for running games EVERY single game i play will function normally but at random times it wiil freeze for about 20-30 seconds before responding again. It has done this whilst ive been playing Fallout New Vegas and Batman Arkham City. There is no predictability for this issue sometimes it will freeze after 5 mins and somethimes it could freeze after an hour or two of game time. I originally guessed the mechanical hard drive was dying therefore i installed Batman onto my SSD but of course it froze after 10 mins and windows commands like control+alt+delete do not work until the game responds again. My graphics card drivers, chipset drivers, audio drivers are all up to date and both windows and diskcheckup have confirmed good health of both the SSD and the HDD. Just to add NO errors come up in Event Viewer at the time of the freezes and my CPU and GPU temps are adequate when playing games. Final thing to note is that my PC NEVER did this before my reinstalll of Windows and i checked the integrity of windows files in command prompt and it was fine. Any ideas?

My specs
Intel i7 4790k
Asus Maximus VI hero motherboard
16GB 1886mhz DDR3 RAM
Gigabyte GTX 970
Sound Blaster Z sound card
120GB Samsung 840 EVO SSD
1TB WD BLUE 7200RPM HD
Corsair 750w semi modular PSU
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

I agree with Tradesman1, it is most likely the motherboard drivers that is the issue. Just a question, did you find the graphic card drivers from Gigabytes website or through www.geforce.com? If you downloaded them through geforce, there is a slight risk the drivers are not correctly attuned to your specific graphic card.

Sounds like your hard drive might be dying, i had a similar issue. It was two issues for me though, one was 1 of my ram sticks was dead and my hard drive was failing.
Take your ram sticks out and try them one and one, if your PC does not start it is broken. (Remember to remove the power cable before removing any parts)

Since you did not have this issue before i doubt it is the BIOS but it doesnt hurt to give it an upgrade.

Question, Is your windows legit or it is pirated? It could be the reason if it is pirated, sometimes you get corrupted versions.

Hello and thank you all who replied sorry for the silence. I took my pc to be repaired at a specialist shop and he said my sound card ws too close to the GPU which could cause issues so he moved it to a lower slot and testing it for hours on end using 3D mark and Heaven Benchmark but as soon as i took my pc back home and played batman it froze again which led me to believe it could be a problem with Directx9 games as the benchmarkers he used to test were DX11 and all my freezing games were DX9, Out of options i upgraded to Windows 10 thinking it will repair or replace any dodgy windows or directx files and i have played a good few hours of batman (DX9), fallout new vegas (dx9) and even Mass effect 3 which is also Dx9 apparently and ive had no freezes. I AM NOT SURE if it has fixed the problem although it may have. I will continue playing for a few days and report any issues to this forum

And to answer your questions my GPU drivers are the latest ones from GeForce Experience and my Motherboard drivers are the ones from the included CD except the LAN driver which had to be updated to work on Windows 10. I will probably upgrade the drivers if the problem persists but can anyone make me a list of needed Windows 10 64-bit Asus Maximus Hero Drivers cause Chipset for example has two downloads and i dont know which ones to get

Many thanks
Jack
