Hi,

I am getting a Xeon 1231v3 and have a gigabyte z97x sli board. My r9 390 for the build will be coming in later.

So the question is, since Xeon doesn't have integrated graphics, Can I still boot the system and basically make sure everything else is working without my graphic card ?

Could I do stuff like install OS, driver etc ? I don't mind shitty display during the time being as I will be waiting for the card anyways.

Even a non gui display is fine with me. In all, I want to know what all can I do without the graphic card.

Just buy some cheap 10$ used GPU off eBay or something and use that... for now..

Thanks for the reply mate... Ya that looks like a good idea... I was wondering how do servers machines that use xeon are setup then... I assume they almost certainly will not put in a graphic card... So I guess they must be setting up everything through network boot... Am I correct?

Only last few years CPUs have graphics built in, before that and even now some have GPUs built in the chipsets on MB.

server motherboards have a cheap basic VGA chip on the motherboard, only for displaying basic desktop stuff for config. workstation boards, on the other hand, typically don't and they rely on you having a dedicated GPU card OR use a CPU with built-in graphics.
