Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Gaming 3, digital/analog sound at the same time?

I've got a Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Gaming 3 in a build with an 17-6700k and lots of other stuff.

I run an audio signal to a stand alone amplifier. I use 2 zones (one for the office and the other for the shop area) but the amplifier can only play a digital signal through Zone 1. I currently have an analog signal from the mini-plug to RCA connectors at the amplifier and both zones are working.

My preferred connections would be digital optical to Zone 1 and analog mini-plug to Zone 2.

I tried going into Realtek Manager and activating the digital optical signal by choosing it as the default, and when I did that the analog mini-plug port shut off. I had thought if the analog port was chosen as default the optical port was turned off, but if the optical port was chosen as default both analog and digital signals are sent. Analog through the mini-plug and digital through the optical port.

Am I wrong? If the digital port is selected does the analog signal stop? Is there a setting somewhere I can choose to have both signals sent?

Secondary question, and might be related... while in the BIOS settings under the Chipset tab I found the Audio Controller, which is correctly enabled (I have no audio card). As a sub choice there is Audio DSP with a default disabled setting. The manual says, "Enables or disables the DSP functionality of the PCH audio unit."

Should I enable that? I'm really not sure how you would get a digital signal without the Digital Signal Processor being enabled, but I can get the Main Zone working off the optical cable with the setting in the Disabled position.

I've been searching online for a while and figured there's someone in here that knows. Thanks for whatever info you can share.

Damn, this sucks, i have the exact same problem. Same mobo with realtek HD Audio. I output via digital optical + another output via front panel 3.5mm jack. Can't get the 2 to work at the same time.
If you're looking for a solution, i had an old Asus Xonar DS audio card (i think you can grab one pretty cheap) and with the Xonar this thing was possible - i could even output 3 way audio : optical, rear jack and front panel jack. Sound quality was great, i still have it, but was looking for a way to make the realtek work in this config. Since this is not possible, i'll go back to the Xonar.

Well, I decided to call Gigabyte and they confirmed... Once you activate the optical out the analog signal stops and there is no method to actively send both audio signals. It has to be either digital or analog.

For others that might be looking for this someday...
