Hello. Like many others here on the forums, it's my first attempt to build a PC all by myself. The last PC I used was a prebuilt full-AMD system, which held impressive 10 years until the RAM banks died. My next PC is going to be a Skylake-based Intel system. I haven't bought the hardware yet, but will do very soon in November. Before we get to the hardware-list, here are some conditions:
CPU: Intel Core i7-6700
It's the non-K version. I will run some CPU-demanding programs (Blender, photo editing etc.), multiple programs at once as well as games. Has 65 watt TDP and sufficient clocking speed.
CPU Cooler: Cryorig H7 Universal
I just don't trust Intel's boxed cooler. Plus, Cryorig is a young company and I want to give them a try.
Mainboard: MSI B150M Night Elf
Very new Socket 1151 board that has pretty much every feature I need. Has very few expansion ports which I will use some day.
RAM: G.Skill DIMM 16GB DDR4-2133 Kit
The mainboard only takes 2133 MHz sticks.
Storage: HGST HUA722010CLA630 1 TB + Corsair Neutron GTX 2,5" SSD 240 GB
Not much to say here. All I need is something that doesn't break down instantly after two years of use.
Graphics Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti
I want to run at high settings, but not the highest maximum possible. A bit of future-proofing with 6GB doesn't hurt.
PSU: Cooler Master V650
One thing I learned for buying PSUs is that you should never cheap out on them. This one is a SeaSonic-based gold-tier and fully modular PSU. As the name suggests, it delivers 650 watts.
Case: Aerocool DS Cube Window (white)
Might install some lights inside later, will put in on my desk. Horizontal mainboard position, comes with two fans pre-installed and has options for more. A very versatile case in my opinion.
OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium (64-Bit)
I am not fond of Windows 8.
Now that we got through that, here comes the actual task: eliminating problems before they even begin. It took me days of comparing hardware to pick the correct ones that suit my needs. Until now, I only used prebuilt systems and obviously I have some concerns:
PS: I live in Germany and the hardware will be bought from Alternate.de.
■ I do not want to overclock
■ Not going for 4K
■ No SLI / CrossFire (ever)
■ Aiming for a stable, smooth-running system
■ Avoiding enthusiast hardware (Titan X; 200€ mainboards etc.)
■ PC usage: around two / three hours a day, around 10 hours for games on weekends

■ Will there be any problems with overheating? How can I ensure having no heat problems?
■ Will my system bottleneck? If yes, what should I change?
■ Can I run games for longer than two hours without having to shut a game off to cool down the hardware?
■ How long can I use the hardware until an upgrade is due?
