do you need a sound card to use the speakers on the asus vg248qe?

i am going to be getting the asus vg248qe monitor soon and am wanting it to run at 144hz, i know i cannot use the hdmi to do this as it caps at 60hz so was going to use DP or DVI. my question is if i want to use the speakers on the monitor do i need a sound card? if not how would i go around doing so..? thanks

No.

The monitor comes with an audio cable you just connect to the motherboard audio port on the back. Just the same as any other set of speakers.

I believe on that monitor you must use the supplied 3.5mm audio cable to get sound to the speakers. Displayport/HDMI won't work as the speakers are their own entity separate from the monitor and need their own signal.

With a HDMI cable you wouldn't need sound cables. There is a RCA plug-in for sound from a computer if needed. HDMI is for both sound & video. If all else fails, check out the manual.
