Hey guys, My ISP is BSNL, so I have to connect a internet/telephone line to my modem to access the Internet??. My modem also acts as a wireless router, but it has a very low range??. I heard that such devices that act as both a modem as well as a router have low range only. But I may have heard wrong, so I just want to ask and confirm my knowledge. So is there such a modem/router that has a place to insert the telephone/internet line as well as acts as a HIGH RANGE ROUTER?. I want one whose range is more than 25 meters In all directions so that I can connect to my wifi even when I'm outside my house??. Please suggest me such a modem/router that has the above specified range (maybe one with three antennas, if that matters) . I want one so badly. And also, is it possible to connect a router to such a telephone line without it being a modem, so that it can give me maximum range? Because my modem is in my last room near my PC and I want to keep my router in the middle room to get maximum range all over my house and outside if possible, so I won't be able to connect my modem to my router using cables - it would cause the cable to run all over my house, which is what I don't want??. Thank you for any and all help.??

The most comprehensive router review site is SmallNetBuilder.

You cannot connect an ethernet network using telephone lines. The pinouts are slightly different, and cat 3 (phone) cable is not twisted as tightly as cat 5 (ethernet) cable. Phone lines can also be hooked up in parallel (multiple ports on the same line), while ethernet is always point-to-point.

It is possible to run ethernet over phone lines by converting it to DSL first. This is how most apartments and hotels do it. But it's very expensive for a single run (probably $200-$400) and basically amounts to two DSL modems talking to each other. You're better off looking into Powerline ethernet (runs ethernet over...

You're better off looking into Powerline ethernet (runs ethernet over your electrical lines), or MoCA (runs ethernet over cable TV coax cable).
