I have a Logisys 480 watt power supply @ 70% efficiency and I'd like to know if its sufficient to run the following:
Gigabyte Mobo AM3+ DDR3 1333 760G;
AMD FX 6300 CPU;
Crucial 2 x 4 Gig Ram
GeForce GT 640 128-bit DDR3
Thanks Jwil

If you buy a good quality PSU, you only need a 350W or greater unit for the 65W (DDR3) GT 640 and the 95W FX 6300. But if you intend on OC'ing the CPU or GPU, or you plan on upgrading the gfx card in the future, you will need more.

As you can see, it is not all about the total watts. There is more to picking a PSU than that. A...

In that case, I'd need to know what the +12V rating of the PSU was. Either look at the nameplate or tell me the exact model of the Logisys PSU so I can check it out. The (DDR3) GT 640 will add another 65W to the load when it is maxed out. http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gt640/specifications

But I suspect you are probably still OK.

No, I wouldn't even try and do that unless I was heavily demented, the FX series processors are greedy buggers and they love power, if it was a seasonic power supply then it would be fine but that is not a good power supply run it if you want but I have a feeling you may regret it.

This appears to be your PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817170016
You will find Logisys PSUs in tier 5 of this listing: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-2547993/psu-tier-list.html#xtor=EPR-8886 ...the "Avoid!" section.
Likewise, this listing also puts them in the last tier, the "not recommended" tier: https://community.newegg.com/eggxpert/computer_hardware/f/135081/t/45344.aspx?Redirected=true
Can you run that system on that PSU? Maybe, the +12V rail is very weak and the protection is nil. Do I recommend you run that system on that PSU? No.

OK thanks to all of you for your responses and I HEAR you load & clear!!
I already had the Logisys PSU but since I've reviewed the PSU "Tier" list I will order a 80 Bronze PSU.
Therefore based on my system below that I just purchased but haven't assembled, how many PSU WATTS do you recommend for:
Gigabyte Mobo AM3+ DDR3 1333 760G;
AMD FX 6300 CPU;
Crucial 2 x 4 Gig Ram
GeForce GT 640 128-bit DDR3

As you can see, it is not all about the total watts. There is more to picking a PSU than that. A good quality 350W unit will have a much stronger +12V rail with good protection than the cheap Logisys, so as not to fry the entire system when it dies.

This XFX 550W will allow you to run just about any size gfx card the FX-6300 can keep up with: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817207013
And it is a top of the line unit.

Btw, is your PSU top mounted or bottom mounted?

Thanks Grandmaster! I ordered the XFX 550 80 Bronze.
I may upgrade my gfx card later to a Geforce 750 Ti. Do you think the XFX 550 PSU will be adequate then?
My PSU is TOP mounted.

Lol... the GTX 750 Ti actually uses less watts than the GT 640. http://www.hwcompare.com/17304/geforce-gt-640-ddr3-vs-geforce-gtx-750-ti/
That PSU will handle any gfx card the FX-6300 can keep up with. That would be the GTX 970.

I have used a few dozen CX 430's over the past ten years . None have failed in service .

Is it a high quality unit capable of sustaining high loads? Probably not . But it is adequate for this build .
And the OP seems to be buying largely based on price . At $26 the 430M is a major bargain

Kudos to clutchc and grandmaster for the advice. I installed the XFX 550W and it's awesome and extremely quiet.

On another topic regarding windows and NEW mobos:

My system is now completely rebuilt. I Previously had a system with windows 7 "OEM" / SP-1 that I had upgraded to WINDOWS 10 about 45 days ago and I was worried about getting a new "valid" win 7 activation with the NEW mobo and cpu. So this is how things went:
1) I installed the OLD win 7 OEM on the NEW mobo.
2) During installation, a message said my win 7 was expired and it gave a message and phone# to CALL for validation of my OEM Win 7.
3) I called the # and got VOICE prompts that asked if i wanted to use my SMART PHONE or talk to a rep so I chose my PHONE and I immediately received a text message with step by step instructions.
4) I carefully followed ALL the instructions and was activated upon completion.
The whole process took 10 minutes.
In summary, YES you can activate a NEW mobo if you have a valid OEM /SP-1 version of windows 7 even AFTER having installed windows 10 beyond 30 days.
