Hello all,

I have a computer in my room that only connects through a ethernet cable, no wireless. Currently my computer is set up across the house from my wireless router. I have another computer set up there with no room for another (so I can't just move mine there)

My friend came over with his laptop recently and we hooked up both computers with an ethernet cable. He shared his WiFi connection with my computer and I was able to go online. I was thinking, it would be nice if I could do that with my smartphone (galaxy s3), as I don't have a laptop to do it with.

I plugged my phone in via usb to my computer and managed to share an internet connection. However, it only works when I am using 3G, and I have very bad reception in my room. Not to mention I don't have an unlimited data plan. Is there any way I can connect my phone to a wireless network, then share its connection with the computer, without using 3G?

Solution
You can't connect your phone to a wireless network, then somehow share that connection with your computer.

You need to get a good wireless adapter for your computer.
As far as I know, no. Turning on your hotspot disables your WiFi adapter, thus forcing you to use Mobile Data. I could be wrong, though.

Edit: And why can't you connect the computer in question to the existing WiFi? Is range the problem? Interference? Help us help you.

Thanks for the quick reply.

The only way I can do that is by running a cable throughout the house, which is annoying. It doesn't connect wirelessly.

I know I'm beating a dead horse now, but any idea why this isn't possible? Computers can do it, and my smartphone can do it with mobile data...

it is on android you have to root your phone I believe,(not responsible if this goes wrong) and use clockworkmodtether download the tether drivers for your pc( on your phone the app has an option to download them which you then transefer to pc( via usb) and setup the software and press start on your mobile (having it connected to only wifi )and voila you have a wireless connection to your pc via usb from your phone ,the only downfall is you do have to pay for the pro version as the free version limits the amount of data transfer you can do ,and this method is supposed to hide the fact that your'e tethering from your mobile carrier( again not responsible for any damage ,lawsuits, etc.)
DISCLAIMER:in short summary I'm not responsible for anything ,nor am I telling you to modify the software or anything that may result in a penalty I'm just answering the question of how to . ,Mitch

Maybe you can go WIFI --> (PHONE)--> BT -->PC, but then if your PC has no BT, back to square one.

WIFI adapters are not expensive at all. Save a penny, lose a pound.
