Recently I got the bootmgr is missing error when my computer went crashed. I was able to fix the problem temporarily, the HDD is missing and gone or wont show on my BIOS set-up, after shutting down my CPU, I went to BIOS to input the working HDD over and over everytime I got this error.

Today, looks like problem are getting more complicated, everytime I starts up my CPU. There are weird sound coming to my CPU, it sounds like a tickling sound of a large clock in slow pace, bcos I guess the CPU attempts to read the HDD or OS and it takes at least 5-10 seconds although it should be instant to launch the OS.

Anyone? Im clueless what the problem really is. Is it hardware or OS problem?

Good job, svcy!

Yes, indeed, dust could have been the source of the issue. Sometimes it can cause quite the headaches and panic attacks!
Either way, I strongly recommend you to keep backups of your data stored off-site as well, this is the best way to avoid any potential data loss. Everything else is replaceable, but your data is precious.

Best of luck with everything! :)

Hey there, svcy!

I'd recommend you to try the drive in a different computer and see if it will get properly recognized there. Are you sure the sounds are coming from the CPU fan and not the HDD itself? Because if it's the HDD, then you are, unfortunately, dealing with physical damage on it.
Another thing you could try if you don't have access to another PC, is plugging the drive using a different SATA cable or maybe trying it on a different SATA port even.
I'd also suggest you to check your HDD manufacturer's website for a diagnostic utility to test the drive with. (Search for a DOS version, if you are unable to boot into Windows) Here's a thread with some suggested third-party utilities as well: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/282651-32-best-diagnostic-testing-utility

Keep me posted!

What if it says, can't read the data ctrl, alt, del to restart instead of saying bootmgr is missing?

Im just done major cleaning today. Changed the HDD port from port 1 to port 2 and swap the cable from the other HDD. I am using 2 HDD on this computer. Still monitoring

When it says cant read data is it OS, software, virus or hardware?

Hello again, svcy!

It might be an outdated SATA controller driver or a hardware issue with the HDD, I'd recommend you to try plugging that drive in a different computer and see if it will get properly recognized there.
I'd also check the motherboard manufacturer's website for any updates on the BIOS version or completely re-install the SATA/chipset drivers from there.

Keep me posted with the troubleshooting!

Thanks guys for your time for helping me.

3 days after I cleaned the CPU, luckily the error never happened again. I opened and clean the processor which is full of dust, mobo and HDD's, VC and even wires. It could be the dust that made the very bad contact. My fan and HDD never sounded weird again, hopefully.

or maybe I switched to port 1 to port 2 of mobo slots from HDD or its just dirty after all.
