This particular Thinkpad Edge (E545) has the AMD 2C A6-5350M processor (2 cores, 2.9 GHz, 1MB cache) which accelerates to 3.5 GHz...not bad for a laptop...but I can only game with low settings/resolution! So I would like to know if I could upgrade the processor? Lenovo's support says this models' CPU/GPU can be upgraded, but it doesn't show what is compatible. I'd appreciate your time and assistance in regards to this matter and I thank you in advance! Ron

Also, would the a10 perform better than the a6 in regards to gaming? And would installing the a10 be as simple as removing the heat-sink fan and pop out the old CPU for the new? Do i have to look for and install new drivers for the a10? Again thank you for your time and assistance LookItsRain! Ron

Thank you for that info! I recently upgraded the RAM from 4gb to 8gb's and chose the Crucial Ballistic Sport sticks...and although it has helped the overall performance,I still notice the graphics (while gaming) is still lacking! So besides just going out and buying a straight-up gaming laptop, would you recommend I upgrade to the A10,or is there something bigger & better (cpu/gpu wise) I could slap in this E545 to help to it game better?? Thank you again for your help! Ron

I suppose if overall you like how your laptop performs with the exception of it's gaming performance, then I would say that it could be worth it to buy an A10-5750m APU depending on it's price.

If you want to buy a new laptop which will give you better gaming performance, then you can buy the following Acer laptop that is on sale ($250 off) for $500. It has a Core i5-5200u, 1080p screen and a nVidia 940m.

One thing to keep in mind is that the build quality will be lower than the ThinkPad E series which is a business oriented laptop.
