Will a PCI-e video card work on a PCI buss? Will the card mate with the PCI socket on the motherboard and will it function properly?

Not sure of the motherboard. It is an older Gateway Model 702GE running a P4 Processor 540. I have had it for several years. On closer look there is one slot open that does appear to be a PC-e. The last time I was in there a couple of years ago I didn't see that slot. I am trying to fix up this computer to use in a dedicated controller and want to upgrade the video to one with a HDMI output so I don't have to tie up my good computer. Cant find any PCI cards that have a HDMI output. I have found a good deal on one that will do the job but is PCI-e, so looks like I can put that one in after all. Thanks for the info, I really appreciate it.

I don't need the sound. My monitor has a VGA, HDMI and DVI-D inputs. I am using the VGA input now, but the video card in the computer has a max resolution of 1024 x 768. I want a higher resolution. The adapter would let me use the HDMI or DVI, but I would think the resolution would still be limited to 1024 X 768 of the video card. I have run this monitor at 1920 X 1080 on my other computer and would like to use the same settings as I am running on my main computer now.
Thank you for your suggestion.
