I want to buy a sound card. My X1 slot already in use. Can the sound blaster z fit into the x4 PCIe slot. My current motherboard is the asus z87k. I want to ask something else. If it fits into the x4 pcie slot, will it interfere with my graphics card in the x16 slot?

Solution
That x4 pci-e slot runs through the chipset so it wont effect the graphics card in the x16 slot, and yes, the sound card will work perfectly fine in the x4 slot.

You can get the Zx version for about $10 more ($105 vs $95) which comes with the external headphone unit. That has the headphone jacks, volume knob and microphone built into it which is pretty handy. You don't have to use it.

*The external unit is much handier than trying to connect headphones to the rear of your PC. Some speaker have headphone jacks but the speakers have to be left on for that to work, plus you're using an additional amplifier which may distort the sound slightly.
