I was never an amd guy but recently I was searching for amd gpus and found the Fury. It seems like a good gpu.

How does it compare to a 980 or 980ti ?

980ti can beat both of them. Yes, it got the new and faster HBM but my friend, today everyone plays on 4k or least a 1080p. More the details u need in gaming, more memory you need and thus the 6gb 980ti wins. For a power efficient, moderate-high gaming, fury does everything.

Generally speaking, the R9 Fury Strix falls directly between the GTX 980 and GTX 980 Ti in performance.
The actual performance in comparison to them though does depend on a great many factors, such as the resolution you are gaming at and the games you are playing.

From the Techpowerup review of this card.

I usually only game in 1080p. But I was actually thinking about buying the fury because the 980 is out of stock where I can buy it.

To be honest, all of of these cards are a bit of overkill for current games at 1080p and you should be more than satisfied with either the R9 or GTX 980 (non-Ti).

That said, nVidia's current DX11 (and below) driver stack does give them a relative performance boost at lower resolutions.
Relative in that you will still have high performance out of both cards, but the R9 is, on average, matched by the GTX 980.
