Hi, I'm thinking about upgrading my current desktop configuration, specifically I'm thinking of buying new processor + motherboard. I would like, however to keep my current RAM, graphics and all other peripherals including my HDD.

Since I have 2TB hardrive with about 150+ pc video games on it installed, obviosly it would be a huge chore to get this installed again. I DO NOT want to do this.

Is it possible in ANY WAY to just load that HDD on a new motherboard with a new processor and without a need to reinstall windows and all those games and programs?

Solution
worst case = it wont even boot

probable case = it will boot and the desktop will take about 10 mins to load, every program you use will be like you're running a pentium 2 with 50mb RAM

best case = most programs will appear to run OK, but at reduced performance, some games will run but with screen tearing/low fps/sound issues/random crashes.

You can do it, but is highly recommended to do an fresh install of windows when installing a new CPU+MoBo.

The problem is you will need to find and uninstall all the old drivers and install the new ones, because you don't want incompatibilities...

it's doable, but even if it works you will take a performance hit. I tried it once and ended up with all sorts of driver issues. you will need to do a clean install of windows with fresh mboard drivers for the best result. CPU is a different story, you can just drop them in and they are good to go.

I need to do this, but to install a fresh copy of Windows 7, I install using different whole system, and I could load it on new system.

That is why I said is possible, but like people already said the performance will be worst.
