Can i reuse my windows 8.1 product key

I have purchased windows 8.1 CD from a retailer and the computer i installed it on is now running windows 10. Am i able to reused that activation key on another computer or do i need to buy another key?

i have looked around and cant find a straight answer

That windows 8 - 8.1 key is no longer valid as it is exchanged on the microsoft activation servers for a 10 key \ hardware configuration .Note that the free Windows 10 upgrade (as well as OEM copies of Windows and pre-installed copies of Windows 10) can’t actually be transferred to a separate PC. They’re tied to a single PC’s hardware.
