My first post here. I'm going to upgrade my monitor from a decade old 17" 900p monitor to a LG Ultrawide 29" monitor (2560x1080) this Christmas. But am afraid my GTX 660, which allowed me to play most of the games at 60FPS at High, can't handle the jump from 900p to 1080p Ultrawide.

Will a GTX 970 be enough to max out games (Ultra at 60FPS)? Or should I get the 980TI? Would my system handle these cards? My Rig details below.

Games that I play (or want to play) are GTA V, Far Cry 4/Primal, Assassin's Creed Unity/Syndicate, Arkham Knight, Euro Truck Simulator, etc.

My Rig:
Core i7 3770 (non K)
8 GB DDR3 (Dual Channel)
MSI B75MA-P45
MSI GTX 660 OC 2GB
Corsair GS600
Samsung 850 Evo 500GB SSD
Seagate 1TB HDD
Windows 10 Pro x64
Viewsonic 17" LCD 1440x900 Monitor

It's always a good idea to buy the highest GPU you can afford.

If you really can afford a GTX 980 Ti, get it and you won't need a new GPU in quite some time (unless it dies).

Nothing to worry about compatibility, if you have an empty PCI-E 16x slot, you're good to go.

Thanks. But will my PC be really able to handle a 980TI? Will my CPU or my cheap MB bottleneck that kickass card in anyway?

Your CPU is still very strong, nothing to worry there. The MoBO, also no problem. But the PSU may need an upgrade, not very high quality.

Thanks for the input. Can you tell me if you're getting 60FPS in these games at High settings?
1. GTA V.
2. Far Cry 4.
3. Assassins's Creed Unity.

If yes, the 970 is the best choice for me, as these are the games that I play almost daily. And the 970 really looks tempting for the price/performance compared to the 980TI.

Oh. It's a Gaming Series 600W. Thought it was future proof for gaming when I bought it two years ago. If I get the 970 instead of the 980TI, can I use the same PSU without upgrading?
