I am trying to get a spare computer up and running just for web browsing in the spare room, The computer in question is not detecting any hard drive that I install, I tried the primary IDE and secondary IDE slot on the motherboard, I tried different IDE cables, different hard drives (which definitely work) I reset the CMOS, unplugged and replugged everything. I looked in the bios and under hard drives and boot sequence it just says (Hard Drive (Not installed) - Any suggestions? This computer was running fine a few months ago and runs Hirens Boot CD perfectly fine amongst many other bootable programs. I just want a HD now to install Windows XP.

(Please don`t say that the computer is old and to buy a new one and it`s only $200, I don`t care, That`s not why I am posting here, I am posting here for help on this computer and don`t need a new one, This is just a spare PC for my spare room!)

Okay I figured it out, I changed the CMOS battery, changed the jumpers on the hard drive from master to cable select, went into the bios and set primary hard drive to auto and set all the others to off, restarted and went into bios and now it's detecting it fine, also make sure that the blue end of the IDE cable is in the mainboard when on cable select, otherwise if it's 2 black tips it's fine!

Hard drive is set to DS Master and it is also the only IDE device (NO CD-ROM etc) - Any other suggestions?

Is the HDD plugged into the plug at the END of the IDE cable? It should be.
