my old system took a dump.. and I was curious as to which was better...

EVGA SC ACX 780 (3gb) or a 970 Gigabyte G1 (4gb) for gaming

I only have one screen 1920x1200 monitor. I'd like to be able to max out most games if not all and not lag at all.

(Hopefully this also runs well on xplane10? )

Anyway I tried searching and it seems like there are conflicts in what is better. Some people say 970 some people say 780.. This place usually has good answers which do you think is better and why?

Thanks.

Hey John_111,
In my opinion, go GTX 970, its faster than the 780, its similar or cheaper, newer architecture and it is a lot better. Lower power consumption and it runs very cool and quietly. It has a lot more variants in general and Gigabyte G1 has a lot more overclocking headroom, it has a triple fan cooling, quiet and very efficient plus it has a huge heatsink so you can overclock very highly.
Heres some data as well to show you:
