I am in the process of building a new PC. I'm switching from AMD to Intel (better mini ITX options.) My question is, can I use my current Windows license/installation or will I need a new one? Here are some extra details...

When I built my current PC in 2012, I bought a Windows 8 64-bit upgrade disc and used it to create a completely fresh install. Since then, it has been upgraded (via download) to Windows 8.1. I still have the disc in my possession, if that helps.

I'd prefer to just be able to hook up the new build, plug in my SSD, change some drivers and be done with it. Will I need to buy a new copy of Windows? Thank you for your help!

If your Windows 8 disc is a retail disc, then you are good to go as long as you wipe your other Windows install on your old PC.

However, if you bought the OEM version of Windows 8 (the cheaper option), you wil need to buy a new Windows license. Hope this helps.
