Hello community,

This may seem like common problem but, i really need helps on this, so here it goes.

My recent pc setup is:

MSI G41M-P23
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6660 2.4ghz
MSI Nvidia Geforce 210 1gb
Windows 8.1 64bit

Kingston DDR3 1333 2gb (x2)

so the problem is, i want to upgrade just a bit more. I installed 2x4gb same memory module. My computer wont start. I sent both pc and memory to a friend IT guy, he says maybe the memory faulty or my board problem cause it was already few years old. Okay, so i sent the memory back for a new ones. Still the same problem. My friend tried and he said he could get the pc working for a short time then it kept restarting again. So I change my board to a new model

MSI G41M-P33 Combo

And it still have the same problem. It can operate normaly with 2x2gb ddr3 1333 memory, but problems with 2x4gb ddr3 1333. I check crucial for the compatible memory swaps, they gave me the list and it says the board even support 2x4gb ddr3 1600. now that even puzzles me. I dont intend to just get a new generation high end pc cause its more simpler, but i just need a bit more ram for my work thats all. and i cant afford to get a new ddr3 1600 for it to work or maybe dont. i have sent the memory for a replacement 3 times already..

Please any advise or solution,

Thanks Community.

In all fairness it could still be the memory, I had RAM fail on me 5 times before when making a build, also you want to be sure that you have the RAM in the right slots, say if your motherboard has 4 ram slots they usually should be put in slot 1 & 3 rather than 1&2

Maybe. but i test it on a friends computer and it works fine. My board is a combo. it has dual ddr2/ddr3 slots..its rare to find ddr2 ram nowadays. right now im still okay using only 2x2gb. just to clear my head on this problem though. its not like its my 1st time, ive build my own pc for like 7 years now. never had this issue before. even the ITguy at my work are puzzled. is it a bad luck maybe? i mean, on 2 different board?
i tried takeout the battery - none
i tried swaping slots - none
i once tried change the boot advance option to full memory - i succeed but after i shutdown, the problem start again.

the likelihood of this happening to two boards is impossible ive been building computers for about 10 years professionally and this has never happened to me, don't get me wrong ive had multiple boards fail on certain area's but not 2 in a row but I assume its within the realms of possibility I really don't see any reason why the size of the RAM would make any difference. so what's happening when you turn the PC on is it booting and getting to the windows home screen or is it turning off during the boot process?

Puzzled right? ive heard other guys with same board got no problem to install up to 2x4gb ram.
at 1st, my pc wont even start after the install, then i updated to the latest bios that says "Improved memory compatibility".
then it keep restarting, didnt get to the boot screen. on - a beep - then restart..on an on..just like that..i dont know, maybe technology have find it is funny to mock me for not up to date..

from what I have read about this board it can take up to 1066 on DDR2 and 1333 on DDR3, the only thing that would make sense is either you need a BIOS update or that your ram is still defective as its only 1333MHz and DDR3 it should be fine.

maybe your right.i heard msi board sometimes a bit picky with their memory.the bios i updated is the latest one from their site.i checked crucial.com for the memory compatibality, some on the list were ddr3 1600..now how they come to that?

Not sure maybe its a typo on the site or maybe someone overlooked it, but I looked at the board specs themselves and it dose say only supports up to 133MHz on ddr3

I will, I work as a software developer and I work very closely with the hardware department and ive asked their opinion on this matter and the only thing they could think of is either faulty Ram, Faulty Mobo or BIOS update which you said you have already done so only things it could be in our minds is RAM or Mobo.
