I recently upgraded my pc to windows 10. Everything was working fine. I used my computer perfectly fine after that. I was recently moving and wanted to make sure windows updates were installed before I moved because I didn't know when I would be able to get on it again. Well, I hooked it back up last night and when I went to turn it on, everything lit up, it would beep once, the Asus screen booted up, then it went to a black screen with a blinking underscore. The keyboard didn't work and there was no cursor. I have no idea what is going on...

Hello again Farvarra

In that case, you may want to hard reset your laptop using the procedure given here.

Let me know if this helps. :)

Oh I am extremely sorry. I should have confirmed about it before.

No the hard reset part doesn't work on PC. However, you can always clear the CMOS on a desktop computer. To do so:

> Power off your computer.

> Unplug the PC from the power supply.

> Remove the CMOS battery. (Just in case, a CMOS battery is round in shape and looks like the one used in wrist watches, but a bit bigger in size.)

> Leave the PC alone for around 30-40 minutes without the CMOS battery.

> Plug the computer back to the power supply.

> After 30-40 minutes, try to power on the computer first without battery, and then with battery placed back in its socket.

And no, you will not lose any data by doing so. It is only the BIOS settings that are reset to default which you can always reconfigure as per your preferences at your convenience.

Hope this helps. Good Luck!!

Nothing can be said for sure. What this process does is, it resets the CMOS settings and removes any junk or bad configuration that may have been saved in it. With the clean CMOS, the computer starts behaving normally.

The boot process of the operating system comes later. :)
