Hi
I was wondering if I can upgrade a cpu for the Dell Vostro 1540. Currently I have Celeron Dual Core P4600 with 4GB of ram and could anyone tell me which cpu should I get.

Solution
The manual says i3 and i5 but I only saw other models with the i3 370m. i7 640m is the highest with the same tdp but it will create more heat and I can't say anything else is certain to work with the bios. There are better cpus for the socket but heat will be an issue too.
It can be changed as it's socket g1. The issue is the cpu support list is never published for laptops. You can try to contact dell but many times they don't have it either. You can see if other 1540 have different cpus but most of the time, laptop cpu upgrades is try at your own risk. Also a better cpu will produce more heat even if the tdp is the same so check you temps and see if it even gets too hot now.
