Hello, I'm going to buy a laptop for video editing and some light gaming.. but I'm having a hard time choosing between these 2,

AMD
A10-Series A10-8700P with Radeon R6 Graphics - 12GB RAM
http://products.amd.com/en-us/search/APU/AMD-A-Series-Processors/AMD-A10-Series-APU-for-Laptops/A10-8700P-with-Radeon%E2%84%A2-R6-Graphics/124

or

Intel
i5-5200U with Intel® HD Graphics 5500 - 4GB RAM
http://ark.intel.com/products/85212/Intel-Core-i5-5200U-Processor-3M-Cache-up-to-2_70-GHz

I'm thinking in going for the AMD.. what do you guys think?

Two sticks of DDR3 2133 will benefit the graphics core especially if the laptop only comes with DDR3 1600 RAM. The CPU cores should benefit a little, but not as much as the iGPU.

As for 16GB of RAM, I am not sure how beneficial that is compared to only having 8GB of RAM. I do not know how much system RAM the Radeon R6 (Carrizo) can use. But I can say it would not be able to benefit from accessing more than 2GB of system RAM since the iGPU cannot be used to play games at 1080p with high graphic settings. Since you are likely limited to playing games at 1366x768 resolution (I have not seen a laptop using an AMD APU with a 1080p screen) and low or medium settings, I can't really see the iGPU using more than 1GB of RAM.

The choice depends on what are you planning to do with the laptop.
If you don't plan to upgrade the RAM, go with the AMD one. In my opinion, 4GB of RAM is a low amount.
Basically, the Intel CPU is more powerful than the AMD one, but the Radeon GPU is better than the Intel HD. But also, if you don't plan to play games, the Intel HD is very capable for everything else.

Greetings

Thanks for the reply! Sorry I didn't specify what I need it for.. I'm going to do some light gaming and video editing.. I plan on upgrading the ram later on

The A10-8700P generally has less processing power than the i5-5200u. However, the A10-8700P's Radeon R6 (Carrizo) graphics core is more powerful than the Intel HD 5500. The Radeon R6 (Carrizo) is about equal to the nVidia 920m and so is the new Intel HD 530 graphics core found in Skylake generation CPUs. But we are talking about the Intel HD 5500 graphics core found in Broadwell generation CPUs. That is slower then the nVidia 820m which in turn is slower than the nvidia 920m. For games definitely go for the A10-8700P.

While I did say the A10-8700P has less processing power than the i5-5200u, I would say that for video editing the A10 should be equal to the i5-5200u or maybe a little better. Most programs uses only one or two cores and in those cases Intel CPUs will simply outperform AMD APUs. But video editing can take advantage of all 4 cores in the A10 so it should perform equal to or better than the i5 which has two strong cores and hyper threading.

Hey thanks for the reply.. Do you think adding 16GB (2X8) DDR3 2133 ram on dual channel will improve APU performance?
