More than a few reviews on Amazon and Newegg of Samsung 850 SSDs complain that one needs a “USB-to-SSD cable” to do the install, but it’s not supplied by Samsung.

Question: If one is intending a new computer build (w CD drive) and new/fresh install of drivers, Windows, all programs, etc. (i.e., no cloning), is a “USB-to-SSD cable” needed? (I can’t see why.)

Thank you.

Nope. Don't believe everything you read on the Internet, including this one! :D

New box, hook up SATA SSD (if it's indeed a SATA) into your first SATA jack, along with power cable.

Boot into bios and it should show your SSD as well as your DVD drive as ATAPI.

Boot into the Windows DVD, the installation shows all the fixed drives that are available to install to, you select the SSD, select option NEW and installation will partition, format, and proceed to installation of Windows.

Examining the matter more closely, it appears that most reviewers with this complaint (i.e., no USB to SSD cable) were trying to clone from the mechanical hard drive in their LAPTOPS . . . though they did not express that important detail in their negative reviews.
