buying more DDR4 RAM later?

Apologies for the silly question, but I'm getting really confused with all the DDR4 bundles that companies like Corsair or G.Skill sell: Is it possible (like used to be the case) to buy say 2x8GB Corsair Vengance LPX now, and later on if I need more, buy another pair of the same ones?
I don´t eraly get why 4x bundles are not cheaper than 2 individual 2x bundles of the same RAMs.

RAM from different batches could have different secondary/tertiary timings, which might cause compatibility issues. Buying it in the one packet ensures it comes from the same batch.

This was the case for DDR3, too.
