I have an ASUS laptop model k53e with motherboard socket 988B rPGA, the motherboard isn't working as it should so i decided to buy a new one, i bought another one with socket LGA 1150/Socket H3, but the cpu isn't compatible.

So my question is, how can I know which CPU can i buy and can be compatible with my the new motherboard? also making sure that it is getting enough power from the AC adapter so there won't be any problem?

Thank you

Solution
Yeah, it is a mistake. It is socket PGA 989.

As for why the laptop shuts down I don't know. The Core i3-2310m is pretty low end so I would assume it should work. It could be a defective motherboard, the BIOS is not the correct version to support the Core i3-2310m, or you did not properly put your laptop back together; which I think could be the case since taking apart and putting back together a laptop can be pretty complicated.

I searched online and i read that i was able to, my current mother board's part number is : 60-N3CMB1300-A05, and the one i bought part number is : 60-N3CMB1300-D02 69N0KAM13D02, but has a different socket.

The 60-N3CMB1300-D02 motherboard is socket PGA 989, not LGA 1150 which is for desktop CPUs.

Below is a link to an article that lists all the CPUs which can physically fit in that socket. However, that does not mean the CPU will work. The motherboard's BIOS chip determines which CPUs are compatible. The best advice that I can give is to simply Google around for other Asus K53e laptops which has a CPU that is listed in the article. Chances are it can work as long as the BIOS version in your new motherboard matches the BIOS version in other Asus K53e laptops.

If you install a CPU that is not recognized by the BIOS, then the laptop will either not boot up at all, or it may run the CPU only that the lowest speed.

I will check the link now, however after i switched the new motherboard, the laptop turned on for like 2 seconds and then turned off again. and i have a cpu "Core i3-2310M" which is listed in the article

Update : The place i got the motherboard from is ebay, and if you check it you will find that the socket there is LGA 1150. Did they make a mistake? I'm really lost

Thank you for answering, but can you give me a link or a guide on how to check the bios ? plus i will reassemble it again soon to make sure i did it correctly.

Update : my current motherboard's socket is : 988B rPGA, but you mentioned 989 instead of 988, could that be the problem?

According to the link, PGA988b and PGA989 are compatible with each other. It seems a bit confusing.

The only way to check the BIOS is to do so when the laptop boots up so you can press F2 to go into the BIOS. But the version should also appear at te bottom of the screen before Windows starts loading. The problem is you stated the laptop shuts down after a couple of seconds.

Update : could it be the CMOS battery? i took it from my old motherboard since the new one didn't have it
