Hey, i really want to record a little bit of minecraft and i was wondering which cpu i should get. These are the different sides i was looking into getting:

860k:
Amd Athlon 860k
8Gb ddr3 1600
Nvidia Geforce 8500gt (already have it)

5400k:
Amd A6-5400k
8Gb ddr3 1600

I would like to know which "setup" would get more fps for minecraft as of right now, i am upgrading the 8500gt to a 750 ti in a few months.

Solution
The 860K will be much better, and if you buy an A10-7850K (or 7870K) and two sticks of faster ram (1866 for example), you won't need a 750 Ti at all, if Minecraft is all you want to do that is.

If you want to go even cheaper, the A10-5800K is still good and can be found for the 860K's price.
What they said. Three out of three doctors agree. The Athlon 860K is the heart of an A10 -7850K so, provided you have a discrete GPU, which you do, it is significantly better than the A6-5400K and can be overclocked further if you get a good motherboard from MeteorsRaining's list

There are some good deals available on the 260X. I saw a $70 refurbished one at Newegg http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202130

While what you say is true, I disagree with the approach. The 860K is $40 cheaper than the 7850K. That $40 is better invested in a discrete GPU, either now, or in the future. Another $30 gets that refurbished 260X.

Looks like the OP wants a good discrete GPU, so the APU is wasting it's iGPU.

The 860K would be a better option, the 5400k is a AMD APU, so it should ideally not be with a dedicated graphics card unless you are maybe upgrading the integrated GPU if you want more performance.

Plan B would be an i3 4170.

If the OP wants to overclock, and they will need to, to get the best out of the 860K, they may need a motherboard anyway.

If they have an old motherboard, I would suggest a different approach..
