Hey everyone,
I'm building my first gaming PC and I want to know how much memory I should have for my set up. Here is a list of my components:

Case: NZXT Phantom 410
Motherboard: ASRock Z97 Anniversary
CPU: Intel i5-460K (As far as I know it comes with a cooler that works fine)
Graphics Card: Geforce GTX 970
Hard Drive: WD Blue 1TB 3.5 Inch Internal Hard Drive
Power Supply: XFX Core Edition 550W
OS: Windows 7

I like the Corsair Vengeance series but I don't know how many GB's my set up will need as I am trying to keep costs a little further down. Please offer me any advice as to what I should get RAM-wise.

Thank you!

You're motherboard uses dual channel memory so I'd recommend you use 2x4GB sticks of RAM. (Buy both sticks from the same kit!)
8GB is enough for gaming and especially if you are on a budget

Getting a 4GB and then adding another 4GB has no guarantee of the two working together, even if you get a second of the same exact model - always best to get all you want/need in a single package.

I would not say so. If there are 2 exact same modules bought separately then there is an almost zero chance of them not to work together. Back in ddr2 i had an ancient computer with 2x1gb ddr2 sticks, 6 years after the computer was assembled i bought 2 ddr2 sticks 1gb with Different timings and they worked with no problem (Note that even the new sticks were bought separately) Also i bought two sticks of 1gb ddr2 separately for another ddr2 pc and they worked fine two with a massive performance boost in windows 7
