I would suggest the z97p-d3. I know it might be more expensive, but it's got 7.1 audio built in, and is much higher quality than the one mentioned above. It's also great for overclocking etc. It's £60, so about $100 in 'murican moneys.
2x DDR3-1600
1x PCI-Express x16 Slot
2x SATA3 Ports, 2x SATA2 Ports
2x USB 3.0/2.0 Ports, 8x USB 2.0 Ports
Solid board that most users report a 4.3ghz-4.5ghz Overclock, I managed to get 2 boards stable at 4.6ghz which most of the $70 and less boards wont do.

It's funny you mention 7.1 Audio... 95% don't use more than a 2.1 Speaker setup or a decent set of Headphones. I will agree that paying a little more for a Z or H Board is a better alternative since he will probably want to replace that Pentium in less than a year when the FTV Stuttering starts to annoy him, but that is not the question he asked. I would also suggest that he waits till Black Friday and beyond to buy since he will probably save up to 40% on the total cost of the system.
I have a MSI H81M-P33 with a pentium G3258.
It's one of the cheapest socket 1150 motherboards available, which is also capable of overclocking the G3258, but it only has PCI-ex gen. 2.
Delaro makes a fair point. Personally, I make full use of the boards audio features, but that's just me. It comes with pcie 3, and a second slower one too.
