Good day!

[strike] This is an update of the restart problem. Now, it no longer happens during gameplay, but also at any time during system usage. For example, sometimes I can play for 2 straight hours until the crash occurs, other times it restarts right after the boot sequence or after I use Facebook/Youtube, it even restarted during Windows install. Again, no error message, no freeze, no weird sound; the screen turn black and the computer restarts. Everything else works normally. I've checked the RAM, the video card, changed the PSU.
[/strike]
[strike] Processor? Motherboard? HDD? I am sure of the compatibility between them, but other than that I can't seem to find the answer to this problem. Windows has been reinstalled for at least 5 times, scans for viruses showed nothing...
[/strike]

UPDATE: So, a PSU change solved the problem. But got me into another one here:

Whoever can solve this is a hero. I am open to any ideas.

[strike]Hello, and thanks for the reply.
I've recently bought another PSU, 400W more powerful than the old one, but it really made no difference...[/strike]

You were right, the PSU did it. A third replacement confirmed.

You are starting explaining your issue at the end not the beginning. "switch back to the old components" that means what? You changed the system around recently? Issues started after that? Need full system specs and fill in some details about the issue. If the system locks up during games it's most likely a video card or power supply issue.

Well, I've changed some components: from a Core 2 Duo 1.8 ghz to a Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4 ghz and added 4 gigs of RAM. After the this small upgrade, I've switched to a 64 bit version of Windows. Then, it started to happen: everytime a game was opened, it ran as expected up to a point where the screen would turn black and I could hear the computer shutting down and rebooting. That's it, no error message, no freeze time (this will not happen if I watch a video or view documents/photos, browse the internet - which won't work either now- or play music). I thought the new components were the problem, so I replaced them with the old ones, without results though. I tried a few other things apart from what I've mentioned in the thread like: booting with Linux preinstalled on an usb drive, install again the Windows (which took 5 attempts, because it would restart during the installation process too), use a bigger PSU, use the ram memories from another pc, once again, no progress was made. Actual specs: Abit IB9 motherboard, Core 2 Quad Q6600, 6 gigs RAM ddr2 800mhz, nvidia Geforce 9800GT.

If you tried a clean Windows setup and a different power supply, may be RAM or the video card. I'd lean towards the video card, the 9800GT is pretty much at the end of usable life. I got a used one, it ran for a couple of years then died well over a year ago. Yours is likely crashing now.

Hello!
I am sorry for my very late reply... I have tried replacing the RAM and testing the video card on a friend's PC and it worked as usual.
I've recently tried a BIOS update which was reported "succesful, but brought my PC to a stage where it won't even boot anymore. I guess it is related to the HDDs and here's why:
I have 2 of them: a 500gb and a 160gb, which is older.
From BIOS, if I choose to boot the 160gb first, booting will freeze at "Verifying DMI pool data...". If I boot the 500gb first, or completely remove the 160gb, the result would be the same: blue screen of death with the message "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL".
I tried switching SATA channels, uninstalling drivers, updating drivers, nothing worked. I have no idea what to do next...
