Hi, I need a quick comparison between these two motherboards-which is better quality, more suitable for overclocking, future-proof etc. Which would you purchase and why?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157633&cm_re=asrock_z170-_-13-157-633-_-Product- (asrock extreme 4)

Seems to me that the asrock is better suited for future set ups but the gigabyte is better for overclocking, though really not sure.
Thanks.

Both will be great for overclocking, and both are very good boards.

Here are the main differences between the two:

- The ASrock can officially support a bit faster OC RAM frequency, but you would really be pushing it to reach those levels so it's not really a big factor

-The Gigabyte has one more M.2 Socket 3 connector, which might actually be a big deal depending on if you're looking at getting M.2 SSD drives

- The Gigabyte I/O features older video interface options (like VGA) and is missing more recent ones (like displayport). It also included USB 2.0 connections...which isn't that fantastic for a premium board.

- The ASRock I/O features more USB 3.0 plugs than the Gigabyte, as well as more recent video interface options...

They are very similar boards. Between the two I would probably choose the Gigabyte, mainly because of the second M.2 socket it has available.

For the asrock extreme 4:

For the gigabyte ud3: I don't find anything which is not really bad or good. It just means that either no one finds anything new/different enough about it from it's performance on the 1150 Z97 platform or it could mean that it's just not on many peoples radar.. sorry, I could have sworn there was a review done here at Tom's but it must have been for the Z97 flavor :(

Here's some people discussing this here at Tom's back in august (if you're interested) : http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2784046/asus-z170-gigabyte-z170x-ud3-gaming.html

and here's some people over at anandtech (the people discussing the ud3 are further down in the thread): http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2439156&page=3

What about the support for extra output options on the asrock, like DisplayPort? If I ever wanted to play at 60fps on 4k in a few years time would that be useful or are there ways around not having the extra options? The Gigabyte only has support for DVI-D and HDMI 1.4.
