Xbox One Controller not Installing

I bought an Xbox one controller for my PC, and it refuses to work at all. It will not install device drivers, when I plug it in it appears as "controller" in my device manager, and it doesn't work in games at all. I have no updates in Windows Update at all, and I cannot understand what the problem is. I have tried to uninstall the driver and plug it back in, tried uninstalling the 1.11 Kernel and User driver updates and reinstalling them, scanning for hardware changes, and a couple other things. The controller works, the cords work, I just can't figure out why it won't work with my PC. I am on Windows 7 SP1. The controller also works fine on my friend's Windows 8 PC.

Okay I just got mine to work. No guarantee it's a cure for everyone, but after 3 hours of fiddling with settings and re-installing drivers I got mine to register. Basically I found this guy's video:

He walks you through manually installing the drivers. There's a link in the description for how to download the one you need in case you're unsure if Windows did it automatically when you connected the controller.

Ironically this was the first video that popped up when I went looking for help, but in the confusion of never having done this before when he tells you to manually select the driver from the list of all Microsoft ones I was accidentally selecting the 360 driver, not...

Ironically this was the first video that popped up when I went looking for help, but in the confusion of never having done this before when he tells you to manually select the driver from the list of all Microsoft ones I was accidentally selecting the 360 driver, not the Xbox One driver, which is listed as "Microsoft Xbox One" (so basically don't just hit X to take you to the Xbox drivers on the list like I did). The one you want is in the middle.

It was actually really simple, so I don't know if you tried this yet but if not hopefully it'll work for you too. I was really stressing out about it but just follow his walkthrough to the letter and it should come out alright provided you already have the Windows updates KB2685811 and KB2685813 which I keep being told are needed first.
