Hi Guys

Built my first computer couple months ago.
Here are the stats:
Windows 8.1
Intel i5 4460
Asrock Fatality H97
Kingston 8Gb Ramm
Adata 128 SSD
WD 500GB HDD
R9 270X

The SSD works perfectly but the HDD doesnt show up in disc management. It is in the BIOS but nothing in disc. My Bios setting is IDE, I originally had it on AHCI but the computer would go into a crash boot cycle. I then disconnected the HDD and switched settings to IDE and havnt had problems since. Now I am running out of space.

Tried putting it back on AHCI, starts crash-restart loop.

How can I get it to show up?

Please help.

I can't do that. There is no 500gb Drive to click on. Only the 128gb ssd. It doesn't show at all.

Hello... Check your cable connections and BIO's setting again... try a different SATA port... Windows should see it if your BIO's see's it. IDE or ACHI will be the same performance... but the SSD and HD need to be the same.

Your Chipset drivers are needed for this Communication between the BIO's and Windows.

So I tried plugging into different ports and even tried changing the cables. Still didnt pick up the hdd.

Now computer is crashing on restart and going into automatic repair. Currently says, "diagnosing your pc".

Any other ideas we can try? should I let it carry on diagnosing?

It eventually restarted then crashed over and over. I unplugged the HDD sata and power. Restarted the PC and its fine again.

I have no idea why

Hi there drsid,

Sorry that you are facing some issues with your WD drive. :(
You may need to attach the drive to a different system in order to be sure if there is something wrong with your system or the HDD itself.
Another thing you can try is to boot up Ubuntu and see whether the HDD will be recognized. In case it is, you can partition -> format it and switch back to Windows in order to check if it will be recognized.
Updating your SATA drivers will not hurt as well.

Cheers,
