Hi, i have gotten my hands on another RAM stick, it is an 16GB DDR3, 4x4GB 1333MHz.
At the moment i have 8GB DDR3 2x4GB 1600MHz. The problem is that when i am gaming newer, and heavy games(fex MGSIV) my RAM load goes up to 100%.

Would i benefit from continue running the 1600MHz, even though it is running at 100%, and sometimes lagging, or should i use the bigger 1333MHz?
I already own them both, so economy doesnt matter.
I am also maxing out my CPU usage at 100% when i play, so the RAM choice should not hinder my CPU efficency.

Current 1600MHz 8GB
Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600MHz 8GB CL9

New 1333MHz 16gb
XMS3 — 16GB Dual Channel DDR3
(CMX16GX3M4A1333C9)

Motherboard
Gigabyte GA-Z77MX-D3H, Socket-1155

CPU
Intel Core i5-3570K 3.4GHz

Hi Tobias,

Personally I wouldn't recommend combining them.

First thing to try would be just to use your 16GB of new RAM, you'll notice an improvement just from that. The drop to a slower frequency won't make nearly as much difference as having more available RAM to use.

I'd recommend using the 4x4GB if the games you are playing right now are lagging. The difference in speed is minimal and won't make a largely noticeable difference. However, if you are bent on running a higher frequency of RAM then you can manually overclock the DIMMs and memory controller.

Thanks for your replies!

Iv tried changing the RAM now. But it only comes up as 4GB, Single Channel 665MHz.
Do any of you have any idea why this is happening?

Hmm I have a 3770k and 16Gb of ram and on MGS:TPP I only see 25% cpu and 4Gb of ram use and thats at ultra max with the 2k resolution, my gtx970 at 99% usage.

I'm wondering if there isn't something else going on to be driving a 3570k and 8Gb of ram to 100%

I also own a 3570k @4.2GHz with 8Gb 1866 and I've personally never seen that cpu pull 100% or ram pull 100% no matter what I've thrown at it in anything less than a full blown occt linpak stress test, and even then that's only 90% ram use.

So you'll have to understand if I'm leary of your results being specific to that game.

I have a rather high RAM use, when just browsing i am currently using 4.4gb. Most of it goes to a long list of extensions i am using in Chrome.
The CPU is at 10-20% when browsing.

Ah hah. That's a serious amount of ram for Chrome. Windows itself only uses 1-1.5Gb usually, so 3Gb of ram is a lot for a browser. It just seems odd that you use so much ram, even with a big list of extentions. Almost sounds like whatever you are doing is being piggy backed.

Hmm, I am running both Malware Bytes, and MSE. Neither of them have detected anything.

Take the sticks out, clean the slots with compressed air, reset CMOS and place the sticks back in. See if that does anything. Make sure you are seating the DIMMs all the way in
