Case fan switch confusion

I have an Ultra Rogue m925 case and it has fan switches built into the case. This bothers me because I just want the fans to run automatically for the speed the computer needs. I don't know for example, of the switches represent an absolute speed, or if they mean above or below an automatic sensor based speed. Will I burn out my fan and suffer the noise if I leave them on high as a precaution? Will I melt my computer if I leave them off for the sake of quiet? Very frustratingly confused.

If your BIOS has the ability to control fan speed with 3-wire or 4-wire PWM fans, and your fans are one of those type, you can forego the case's switches and connect the fans to the board if you have sufficient headers. But most of the time, low speed is sufficient for all but the hottest environments if your case has good ventilation.
