GTX 780TI Matrix Platinum vs GTX 970

Hi,

I know there's plenty of threads regarding this but I couldn't find an answer concerning this specific version of the GTX 780ti. I've been offered a GTX 780ti Matrix Platinum for £40 less than a GTX 970. I know this card is older and only has 3GB of VRAM but I have been looking at the prices of this card and statistics show that it's 13% faster than the reference GTX 780ti, hence making it 12% faster than the GTX 970 if this is right? Does anyone have any more information on this and any opinions as to which card I should buy?

Are you comparing this to the gtx 970 reference? If so then sure I can see your point but if how does it fair against non reference versions?

Its up to you, the 780Ti is more powerful BUT 3gb VRAM, I wouldn't pay for that now. I game on a 780 (non Ti) @ 1080p and have found 2 games that I have to lower the settings on as I'm hitting the 3Gb VRAM limit which causes instant stuttering. Now I know this VRAM usage at 1080p isn't common for games now but I cant help but think it wont be long until its more common.

I was having a look at the EVGA GTX 970 SSC version, I think it's around £230'ish to buy. On the other hand, the GTX 780ti Matrix Platinum is £180. I'm not too sure how they compete though as I'm not too good at reading the specs of GPU's in the comparisons.

The 780ti is still good but unless you are getting a really really good deal you're better off with the 970 ssc and I'm not good with foreign currency but that doesn't look like that great of a deal.

Here is the real kicker question. What psu do you have. keyboard is messing up a lil bit right now. That 780ti is a premium card and is a good deal cheaper, there is very little instances where having the extra half gig of memory will be an advantage. If I were able to buy that card ( a super premium card) for that price I would do so right away if my psu could support it.

Hey, my PSU is a OCZ 650W ZT. I do think it'll be enough so I'm good on that one, the guy has backed out the deal and stuck it up on auction now so I guess I gotta clench hard and hope for the best!

Oh yeah, after reading a review it appears to be enough psu to run that card providing you are not running an overclocked AMD system with an 8320 or better
