Is this a good first build on a $700 total budget?

Here is a better psu and video card. Do you REALLY need the disc drive? You may consider getting a cheaper monitor to start in order to get better parts.

Hey man! Thanks for the build, it'll definitely be better than what I had set up. I've heard some Ubisoft games have problems on AMD cards. Is this still an issue or have they resolved this? Ubisoft is one of my favorite game companies and it will definitely be disappointing if I can't play those games. Hopefully you [or someone else] can recommend a good non-AMD card.

An i3 will perform better than the X4 860k.

Go to r/software swap on reddit. You can get a legitimate copy of windows 7 for 10 dollars and upgrade to windows 10 for free, or get windows 10 or 8.1 or 8 for 20 bucks. That'd leave you 75 dollars to go up to an i5 4460 processor which would be significantly better than an i3.
