Hey,

Umm, I'm having a lot of trouble with my PC today, and I'm beginning to think its a GPU problem after my initial hopes it was with my games...
I play a lot of CS:GO and today when I got on to play some casual, I noticed i had a bit of frame rate lag. Every time I see an enemy my computer drops FPS from about 150-180 to 80 and its pretty much unplayable for that 1-2 seconds that it drops and recovers. Also its normally about 200-250 FPS depending on where I am compared to this 150-180. I have had similar problems in the past and it has been fixed by a restart of the game, but not this time. I restarted the game and my PC numerous times. The thing that gets me is that all was working well yesterday, but not today. I thought maybe it was a CS:GO glitch so I uninstalled the game and started the DL again. While it was downloading I got onto my Assassins Creed Black Flag, It was working... all right, but instead of my normal 50-60 FPS I got 20-30, I thought (hoped) that it was just the part of the game I was in. Then I started a Fort battle or whatever it is (haven't played much ACBF) and it just.... bugs out. My HUD moves and works but the rest of the screen freezes, loads at different moments before freezing again and there are some visual glitches as well (pixelated shit). My GPU is a little under a year old and I'm sure shouldn't be doing this. I really don't know what to do..

Here are my specs
http://au.pcpartpicker.com/b/Ptr7YJ

Should I bring it somewhere for someone to have a look? I haven't changed anything apart from switching around two fans yesterday. I'm worries I broke something doing it but I don't know how I could've. No srew driver went inside the PC and I didn't touch the graphics card.

Also if you want to see whats happening with the ACBF its possible I could upload something to YouTube but would be a struggle. Ask if u want to see.

Thanks for any Help,

Callum

I believe it still has its 3 year manufacturer warranty. On my side panel, the fan I had was sucking in air through slits and for about a year I put up with this horrible whistling noise, thought I needed a new fan until I tried turning it around so it blew out air. Because I had now 3 fans blowing out and one sucking in I turned another around so that it sucked, to improve airflow. The fan on the side panel now blows out warm air from my GPU, which i guess is better as well. My card temps are normal. Idle about 30 degrees and about 40-50 when running CS.

Modifying fans combination can make serious change inside your PC-case.
They help you to cooling down the temps inside the case, but wrong configuration can make the airflow running bad.

Try to make some changes, like:
1. 3 fans blowing in + 1 fan blowing out.
2. 2 fans in + 2 fans out.
3. 1 fans in + 3 fans out.
4. try different position of which fan is blowing out and in.

Last, if the problem still exist, RMA your card to get a replacement.

Why would I do that? Temps are normal. GPU is 30c idle and CPU 50c. I have 2 in and two out as well as my PSU sucking out.

Actually now thinking about it is 50c idle for a CPU a lot? I'm not sure.

If you can for me Download GPU-Z, while running a game if you can minimize or even make it log for a bit while you play so that you can see whats going on with the GPU, see if its running in 2.0/3.0 like it should be, possibly if your PSU is giving out then you could be losing voltage required in those situations where the GPU instantly demands energy and the PSU cant supply it, thats why you should also look into Continous Power 12v Rail PSU's. Also try and monitor the CPU activity, tell me if when playing a game if it maxes all the cores, or if some are even parked that could inhibit the way your GPU is performing as alot of the time some games are very CPU intensive and not as much GPU intensive, so its easy to commonly mistake where the error could be.

As for your CPU 50C idle sounds like it may be the bottleneck causing issues, check the temps constantly when in a game and see if they keep going up and see if it spikes during times where the game has to render something new, I would suggest buying a cooler for your CPU rather than using stock as stock ones are horrible IMO, and if you cant buy a new one at least re apply the thermal paste between the CPU and Heatsink, the reseat it, this will help performance and cooling drastically.

I'm really sorry, I didn't read the last part of your posting above.
Maybe it's best to RMA your card to get a replacement.

Also, with a AMD cpu they have many cores, half of them are usually always parked, Make it so you cant have parked cores by following these instructions, and this will make it split the load evenly between all 8 rather then loading up 3 cores with all your gaming activity, this overall will decrease your temps aswell.
Copy the following registry key entry between the brackets [ 0cc5b647-c1df-4637-891a-dec35c318583 ].
Select your start button.
On the search bar type in “regedit”.
Go to edit->find->find next.
Paste this registry key but without quotes “0cc5b647-c1df-4637-891a-dec35c318583” and click find.
Once it has located it, look for the keys on the right hand side labeled MinValue and MaxValue.
Double click on each value and make sure they are both set to ‘0’.
Close the registry editor and shut down your computer.
Power the computer back up.
Core Parking should now be disabled.

I have a CPU cooler, CoolerMaster Hyper 212x. I was using AMD overdrive for those temps and I think I may have had autoclock on. I'll download that program and play some CS but, ACBF seems pretty much unplayable.

I did the regedit thing and Min was on 0, Max on 64, changed it to 0. Haven't restarted yet, will do after I post this. What I don't understand is that I was playing it yesterday and getting great FPS, why is it not working now after these settings?

Thanks tho :)

All good. No need to be sorry :) I am really trying to avoid an RMA or at least rule out everything else first.

Be sure not to use AMD overdrive, if you have a AMD processor then the turbo will kick in throwing off multipliers and your FSB: Dram ratio causing significant lag, also you dont want to OC your card at all, considering its already factory OC. Revert all your OC back to normal then try playing a few games aswell. should be back to normal

see the bus interface, click that question mark and start the little render test, it does not have to be in full screen, just make sure it goes up to PCI 2.0 or higher.

Was playing CS for a while, still had the issue when an enemy entered my screen FPS dropped from an all ready low 130 to 80-90.
7j8.png

This was the render test screenshot. I noticed every 3 seconds the render would pause momentarily and if I was trying to move my mouse during that pause it would stop, then move over, like I was having a FPS drop on my Desktop. Im not sure if it is my GPU or CPU though :/ .

Here is the log from about 15 minutes of CS play.

Sounds like its your CPU having trouble, check how your CPU is doing during gameplay, there is a program called CPU-z that is very helpful, also turn on high performance in power options, then let me know what happens. this will keep your processor running at its max potential.

Put it on high setting, CS and ACBF still weren't running well but rust, a much more straining game on full settings was running fine...? Mind you no one was around me and I'm not sure what my FPS were as they removed that. I just need to know where the problem is, my GPU or CPU. I'll run cpu-z now but I'm not sure how to make it log or which part I want to be looking at??? Also I see my multiplier is jumping from 7% to 21% every few seconds and I currently have no game running. The 21% brings it over the 4gz and I'm not sure how to stop that!?

Whats happening in that image is perfectly normal, the p stands for power, there are 7 different power states on your CPU, how it works is your Buss speed is 200mhz, the multipliers will always change to save power, for example on the lowest power saving setting, the CPU is running at .850V and a *7 multiplier, the *7 is your Core Multiplier.

so 7*200mhz = 1400mhz, 1.4g, this means at the lowest power settings your cpu's rated frequency is 1400mhz, when you increase and begin more intensive applications, the multiplier will increase, from 7 to 21. when at 21 multiplier, the cpu is running at 1.425v, but the outcome is 200mhz*21 multiplier = 4200MHZ, 4.2ghz. The reason why it goes up to 4.2ghz is because of the way they are designed, I am guessing its a quad core processor, or a dual core. anyways the relevance is that when a quad core processor is reaching its max frequency it will actually disable the 3 other cores and run 1 core at 4.2ghz, like wise if 2 cores were maxing it would disable 2 others and run these ones at 200mhz*20.50mult= 4.1ghz and the normal running mode would be say 3 cores active to split the load and 1 parked to save evergy, these would run in the next power saving state at 20mult*200mhz=4000MHZ 4.0g your stock rated speed.

Also its stated with your processor that it DOES have a AMD Turbo Boost, this brings it from 4ghz to 4.2ghz, what you stated before, in order to stop that you must go into your bios and turn off turbo boost.

I don't know why nobody else picked up on this, but what do you mean by "your psu sucking out"? Do you mean to say the intake vent on your power supply is facing INTO your case, instead of facing the bottom or outside of the case? If you're drawing air from inside the case, through your power supply, you're adding heat into the case unnecessarily as well as trying to cool your PSU with case heated air. That's bad, and not desirable. The only exception would be if you have a top mounted PSU or mini-ITX configuration where that's the only way it can be mounted.

Not sure that's related to your current problem, but it certainly COULD be. And yes, 50°C IS high for an idle temp on any CPU. It should be no more than about 35°C max at idle unless you have a lot of things going on in the case and are using a stock cooler, then it might be as much as 40°C and still probably not desirable.

The PSU could be adding to those temps if it's not being cooled adequately with fresh outside ambient air, as it will run hotter than it should be and will radiate some of that heat off internally though it's own chassis into the case or fully into the case anytime the PSU fan isn't running.

If you've been cooling the PSU with case air for some time, it may be degraded by now, especially if it was a lower quality unit to start with, and could certainly affect pretty much everything else that's attached or powered by it.

Also, your motherboard is not suitable for overclocking with FX 8 core chips. It has poor thermals. It's suitable for FX 6 core, but not FX8. This could be a cause for both any stability issues with the CPU as well as your increased temps.

Tier Three: Mid range. Only one MoBo in this list as the thermals on VRM and PPs are not good enough for FX 8. Issues have been reported of instability with FX 8 even w/o OC, so this board is only good for FX 6 or lower. The board itself isn’t low quality, but the Power Phases and thermals are just not good enough.

Your CPU cooler is also mounted wrong, in two ways. One, it's on the wrong side of the CPU regardless of whether it's in a pull configuration or is pushing down through the heatsink. It should be on the other side of the heatsink blowing upwards towards the top, or more preferably the entire heatsink should be mounted vertically rather than horizontally, with the fan on the frontmost portion of the heatsink blowing towards the rear exhaust fan. Is that CPU cooler fan currently in a pull or push configuration? Is it blowing towards the heatsink or towards the top of the case and how is the fan above it configured if there is one?

You PSU is definitely facing the wrong way. The intake fan/grill should face the bottom of the case, unless there is no intake vent in the case there, which I know there is on the Shenobi. Flip it over immediately and make sure nothing is obstructing airflow under the bottom of the case.

Also as stated above I did not notice, I highly recommend removing the Cooler and positioning it blowing towards the back and front rather then the top, this has many included benefits, such benefits are if you take the fan, after re positioning the cooler, place the fan on the left side towards the rear of the case(Where the case exhaust fan is located" and making the fan pull heat through the fins and push it towards the back for the exhaust fan to cleanup while its also greatly helping cool your ram, the cold air coming to the CPU and the TOP will rush over the ram before entering the Cooler. Not only that but you have a VRM heatsink towards the back at the top, next to the exhaust fan, with the fan aligned this way on your CPU cooler, it will also push air over the VRM heatsink which was its initial intention.

Taken from my own computer Darkbreeze is correct, the PSU has incorrect alignment, it should look as following

And by alignment of the heatsink this is what I mean, This works extremely efficiently for me although it is a close fit between the ram and Cooling fan.
