I'm looking to build my first PC, and I want a serious build. I'm new to this so I'm not all familiar with the terms and different brands. I'm looking to build a PC for gaming, streaming and video editing. I already know what CPU/GPU I want and I'm assuming the power supply. Intel
Core i7 4790k and a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970. 600w power supply. I have no idea what kind of motherboard I need or what size shell I'll need. I know I'll need 8gbs of ram for gaming, but should I go for 16gbs since I'll be editing video as well? Also, what about cd drives and hdd space? Am I missing anything

That's a good choice on the CPU and GPU, both well suited for the tasks. The power supply should be plenty, as long as by 600W you don't mean the Corsair CX600, which is a cheap Chinese piece of crap that fools a lot of people into buying it because it has "Corsair" written on the side. Best idea is to pick one from the top two tiers of this list:

Depending on budget, for storage I'd go with either 256 or 512 GB SSD for your operating system and whatever games/projects you're working on right now, then probably a 2 TB HDD for mass storage. Main point is, you do not want a huge mechanical hard drive as your main for gaming and OS, you will notice the performance hit.

16 GB of RAM is the right call if you're working with videos.

DVD-R drives are basically a commodity now and it doesn't make much difference which one you get.

You may consider a bigger CPU cooler than the stock Intel fan, depending on how much video editing you do and/or whether you plan on overclocking at all. Normally with no overclocking, you wouldn't need it, but since video encoding will run all 4 cores at 100% until it's finished, that generates a ton of heat, which if you do it all the time with the stock cooler, puts a lot of stress on both the CPU and the fan.

Now what about a motherboard? Also, what kind of fans should I get for circulation?
