Hi all!

I upgraded from 8GB (2GBx4) DDR3/1600MHz Quad Channel Memory running on Gigabyte X79-UP4 to ADATA USA XPG V1.0 OC Series 16GB DDR3 2133MHZ PC3 but am not so sure if it was a good decision.

Please advise!
Thanks!

I know how lame I sound. My older ram was Quad channel as mentioned in product description but I couldn't find any such description (Quad channel/Dual Channel) of the new RAM(ADATA XPG). I guess the correct question would have been, what's a dual channel and quad channel RAM.

I have a Gigabyte X79-UP4 (Rev 1.1, BIOS F7) with an I7-3820 3.6 GHZ plugged in.

Thanks!

Legenda in Aeternum
DRAM is DRAM, each stick is a simple 64bit device, generally there's nothing that 'makes' DRAM dual, or Tri or Quad channel, that's normally just a designator advertisers use to equate to the number of sticks in a package. The mobo/MC (memory controller) determines how DRAM runs. Sticks in dual channel be it 2 or 4 are 'seen' by the MC as a single 128bit device, if in Tri channel they are seen as a single 192 bit device and Quad sees the sticks as a 256 bit device, therefore it shows a performance increase over single channel.

Your mobo is native to quad channel, but can downstep and run in Tri, dual or single channel mode(s)
